Coach Bergmann is entering his 10th season as a member of the Blazer football coaching staff. After 8 seasons as Co-Defensive Coordinator for the Blazers he is now in his second year as Quarterback coach. This will be Coach Bergmann’s 25th year of coaching overall. The first 13 years were as head coach at several Kansas high schools.
Joel started his coaching career in 1991 as the Running Backs coach at Dakota State University. In 1993 Joel moved on to Burden, KS and was the Head Football Coach for Central of Burden High School. In 1997, Joel became the Head Football Coach for Herington High School in Herington, KS. In 2000, Joel took the Head Coach Position at El Dorado High School in El Dorado, KS. While at El Dorado Joel lead the Wildcats to their first ever playoff appearance. He had 2 district championships and 1 district runner up while at El Dorado. In 2003, Joel accepted the Head Coaching position at Buhler High School in Buhler, KS. During his time at Buhler Joel led the Crusaders to back to back playoff appearances in 04 & 05. Joel joined coach Diener and the Blazers in 2006.
Coach Bergmann grew up in Blaine, Minnesota and played at Blaine High School. Joel played collegiately at Anoka Ramsey Community College in Coon Rapids, Minnesota and Dakota State University in Madison, South Dakota.
Coach Bergmann is married to Crystal Bergmann, who is a Registered Nurse at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. They have 4 children, two sons, Cole who is 15 years old and is a freshman at GEHS and Garrett who is 12 years old and is a 6th grader at Spring Hill Middle school. Their two daughters are, Emilee who is 9 years old and is a 4th grader at Wolf Creek Elementary and Hailey who is 8 years old and is a 3rd grader at Wolf Creek Elementary. Cole is a member of the Blazers freshman football team. Garrett enjoys playing baseball and basketball and is also a Blazer Football ball boy for the varsity football team. Emilee and Hailey both enjoy soccer, basketball and watching Blazer football games.
