Coach Bass is entering his 7th year as a high school coach. Coach Bass started his coaching career in Gardner at Pioneer Ridge Middle School; in his first years of coaching at the high school Coach Bass coached the freshman defense, varsity interior d-line, JV defense, varsity inside linebackers, freshman offense and the varsity o-line. This year Coach Bass will be working again on the defensive side of the ball working with the defensive ends.
Coach Bass grew up in Dayton, Iowa and attended Southeast Webster High School where he graduated in 1989 as a 4 sport athlete competing in football, baseball, basketball and golf. Coach Bass was an all-conference selection in football, basketball and baseball. In high school Coach Bass played
on both sides of the ball as a defensive back, quarterback and punter. Coach Bass still holds his high school record for most interceptions in a season and career. Coach Bass was also selected as an all-state as a shortstop in baseball where he still holds the records for home runs and batting average in a season and a career.
Coach Bass has been married to his wife Sue for 22 years and they have 2 children: Kylie who is a freshman at Allen County Community College. Zach who is a junior wide receiver this year. Sue works in the district as a life skills teacher at Madison Elementary. They have lived in Gardner for 17 years and love to cheer on the Blazers every Friday night!
