Both played on the Defensive side of the ball and received All State honors. Jonas Pippitt Sr “D” End was named to the 1st Team All-League and Hunter Skeens Sr “D” Back was the other Blazer to break into the 1st Team of the EKL All-League. Jonas at “D” End tallied 82 Tackles, 7 TFL, 4 Hurries, 3 Sacks, 2 Batted Balls, and 2 Caused Fumbles. Jonas finished his career with the 4th most solo tackles in Blazer history with 137, and 4th all-time in total tackles with 260. Hunter at his cornerback position also tallied 46 Tackles; 5 Pass Break-ups, 1 INT, one 1 Caused Fumble and 1 recovered fumble. Hunter was also named to the 2nd All EKL Team at the Specialist position. Hunter had a 27.7 yard average on Kick returns with 1 TD and 3 Blocked Kicks. The Blazers also had 2 other players named to the 2nd Team of the All EKL Team and Honorable Mention All-State Honors. Jace Sprague won 2nd team All-League honors at receiver with 52 catches for 815 yards. The 815 yards places Jace 4th on the All Time Blazer Record board for yards received during a season, only 5 yards behind the 3rd place position. Tyler Henry at Linebacker also received 2nd Team All League recognition. Tyler was named 1st Team last season but a broken collar bone held Tyler out of the 1st 5 games of the 2016 season. Even though Tyler averaged 2 more tackles a game this season than last year, the games missed at the start of the season made it difficult to make the 1st team for consecutive years. Rounding out the Offense with Honorable Mention recognition was Griffin Johns at Quarterback and Keegan Michael at Running back. Senior Griffin Johns finished the season throwing for 1,644 which is 4th best season for a Blazer QB, only 20 yards behind 3rd place. It is a very crowed record board because only 54 more yards would have placed Griffin 1st passing Conner Bechard’s top spot with 1,697 for season. Keegan also received Hon Mention Honors at running back. Keegan had another banner year carrying the ball for the Blazers and as a junior will return next season with high expectations to add to his already impressive career. On defense Conner Boyt, Sam Stranathan, Zach Bass, Michael Kittleson, and Austin Bond were each named as Honorable Mention all-league players. Conner Boyt received Honorable Mention honors both as a Linebacker and Punter. Conner played both LBer and Corner for the Blazers this year and his 36.2 average punting is the best average for a Blazer punter in the past 10 seasons. Both Sam Stranathan and Zach Bass were moved full time to the defensives side of the ball this season and both were huge factors for the success of the Blazer “D” with their “D” line play. Both players still were used at times on the offensive sides of the football and their impact both on “O” and “D” will be missed next season. Defensive backs Michael Kittleson and Austin Bond round out this season’s boys honored on the honorable mention team. Both boys played safety for the Blazer “D” and each had outstanding seasons. Senior Michael Kittleson came off a serious summer dislocated elbow injury to lead the Blazer “D” from his Free Safety position. Besides coving the pass and making many critical open field tackles, Michael became the Quarterback of the back 7 getting the Blazer “D” in the correct coverage by formation. Junior Austin Bond finished his 2nd year as a starter for the Blazer secondary leading the Blazer “D” in total tackles with 105. Along with his many tackles his pass coverage form his strong safety position was also critical in the pass happy EKL league. Again we are looking forward to Austin taking his game up to another level next year as a Blazer senior. Congratulations for each of the boys named to the EKL all-league Football Team.
